William “Bill” Henry Gates III. was born in Seattle on October 28, 1955, the second of three children to lawyer William Henry Gates and teacher Mary Maxwell Gates.
Gate’s great passion was math and economics. With this interest, he found little connection with peers, he was considered highly gifted. From the age of thirteen, Gates attended the Lakeside private school to further develop his talents. There he found with his school friend and later partner Paul Allen together. Using the school’s own computer, they created the “Traf-O-Data” program for measuring traffic flows in “Basic”. The pair were then commissioned to examine a DEC computer from Computer Center Corporation for errors in the program. The collaboration was successful and so they founded the “Lakeside Programming Group”, in which Paul Gilbert also participated.
After finishing school, Gates studied law at Harvard from 1973 to 1975. Here he also met Steve Ballmer who would later become his business partner with Allen. Bill Gates developed new version of the Basic programming for the first “MITS Altair” microcomputer at Harvard. When his business activity stopped him, he turned to the development of new computer programs. Gates already worked with his friends in a garage in Albuquerque to further develop the existing Altair computer, and in 1975 the “Microsoft” company was founded. A year later, the company moved to Seattle with 16 employees. Believing that the computer will be a valuable tool in any household, Gates and his team started developing home software for PCs.
The year 1981 laid the foundation stone of his empire: Gates recognized the potential of the operating system “SCP-Dos” of Seattle Computer Products. He bought the system to develop the later “MS-DOS”. IBM could have forestalled him, but the rival company was only interested in a license because they preferred to develop their own program. In 1983 the first version of “Windows” appeared on “MS-DOS”. The new “Windows” system was a revolution, but neither manufacturers nor consumers wanted to engage in experiments and prefer systems that they knew or could develop themselves. Gates traveled from trade fair to trade fair without success, and important orders failed to materialize. Gates was not discouraged for over eight years working on the further development of Windows up to version 3.0, which appeared in 1990. Even Windows skeptics now considered the computer to be reinvented. Within a few years, the Microsoft Windows program became the most successful computer operating system in the world.
Gates has received numerous prizes and awards for this achievement. Even critics and envious people now used his work. Your accusation: Gates would only have enriched the ideas of others in its developments. However, he was the pioneer who recognized the potential and knew how to avoid mistakes in order to make them successful in application and in trade. However, no other product in electronic industrial history had an impact on social and economic development. This made Bill Gates Biography the economic personality of the millennium and in 1994, for the first time, according to the “Forbes” list, the richest person in the world. In 1989 he founded “Corbis”, one of the largest image and media archives, which provides works of art and photographs in digitized form. On New Year’s Eve 1994, Bill Gates married Melinda French. Together they became parents of two daughters Jennifer Katherine (1995) and Phoebe Adele (2002) and son Rory John (1999).
On November 1, 1999, the “Microsoft Inc.” calculated for the first time in the US share index DOW JONES. The index represents a selection of the top 30 major companies in the United States. In 2000, Gates gave up his position as CEO to Steve Ballmer. Gates became chairman of the board and chief developer of Microsoft Inc. After a five-year investigation of Microsoft’s market practices, the EU Commission came to the conclusion in March 2004 that the group had abused a monopoly position.
