Central cabinet approves surrogacy: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Surrogacy Regulation Bill, incorporating the recommendations of the Select Committee of the Rajya Sabha for changes in surrogacy rules.

Central Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Surrogacy Regulation Bill incorporating the recommendations of the Select Committee of the Rajya Sabha . According to the new change, now any woman other than close relatives can become a surrogate if she is willing. These proposals were approved in the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

After the meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said, “The Surrogacy Regulation Bill got the approval of the Union Cabinet, incorporating the recommendations of the Select Committee of the Rajya Sabha .” A committee of Parliament recommended that not just close relatives but any woman who is interested can become a surrogate.

Only couples of Indian origin will get rights

Let us tell you that the 23-member Select Committee of Rajya Sabha has made 15 important changes in the Surrogacy Regulation Bill 2019. Let me tell you that in surrogacy, the mother of the child does not get pregnant herself and uses the surrogate, that is, another woman is pregnant about her eggs and gives birth to the child. Union Minister Smriti Irani has said that it has been proposed in the bill that only couples of Indian origin can adopt the womb of rent in the country.

Significantly, the amended bill is a refined format of the original bill which was passed in the Lok Sabha last year but was opposed by many members. The government then agreed to send the bill to the Select Committee of the Rajya Sabha, headed by BJP MP Bhupendra Yadav. The committee after consulting various parties gave its recommendations on this bill. The amended bill can be introduced in the second part of the budget session next month.
