Life of Lord Dattatreya Jayanti

The birth anniversary of Lord Dattatreya is celebrated in the month of Margashirsha. Dattatreya contains both the forms of God and Guru and hence he is also called ‘Parabrahmurti Sadguru’ and ‘Srigurudevadatta’. He is considered the first Guru, Sathak, Yogi and scientist of the Guru dynasty. According to Hindu beliefs, Dattatreya discovered the power of Vyomayan aviation from Parad and made a revolutionary exploration in medical science.

> Lord Dattatreya was born to merge the ideology of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh, the trinity of Hinduism, hence he is also called the form of Tridev. Dattatreya considers Shaivapanti as an incarnation of Shiva and Vaishnavapanti as part of Vishnu. Dattatreya is also considered to be a pioneer of the Navnath tradition of the Nath sect. It is also believed that Dattatreya was also the originator of the Raseshwar sect. Vedas and Tantra Marg were merged with Lord Dattatreya and formed the same sect.

> Lord Dattatreya Jayanti took education from many people in life. Dattatreya also learned from the lives of other animals and their activities. Dattatreya ji says that by virtue of which he has got all the qualities, he has considered those qualities as his master, thus I have 24 gurus. Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Sky, Moon, Sun, Kapot, Python, Indus, Kite, Bhramar, Bee, Gaja, Deer, Pisces, Pingala, Kurarpakshi, Balak, Kumari, Snake, Sharkit, Spider and Beetle.

Maharishi Atri, the Mansaputra of Brahmaji, was his father and daughter of Kardam Rishi and Sati Anusuya, sister of Kapil Dev, spokesperson of numerology. In the Shrimad Bhagwat, there are references of Maharishi Atri and Mata Anusuya taking birth of three sons from the portions of the trinity.
According to the Puranas, they have three faces, six-handed tridevamasoopa. A cow and four dogs appear in front of them in the picture. His residence is said to be near the Oudumbar tree. Similar images are seen in various monasteries, ashrams and temples.

Disciples of Dattatreya:
His chief was three disciples who were all three kings. Two were from the warrior caste and one from the Asura caste. The name of Lord Parashurama is also taken from his disciples. He was educated in the Indian state of Tripura as the confluence of three sects (Vaishnavism, Shaiva and Shakta). Because of this Triveni, only three of his faces are symbolically shown, while his three faces were not.

According to the belief, Dattatreya had given Shrividya-mantra to Parashuramaji. It is believed that Dattatreya gave many teachings to Shivaputra Kartikeya. Dattatreya goes to the devotee Prahlada for teaching him the superior king by teaching Anasakti-Yoga.
On the other hand, Muni Sankriti received Avadhut Marg, Kartaviryaarjuna got tantra and Nagarjuna got alchemy only by his grace. Guru Gorakhnath received the path of asana, pranayama, mudra and samadhi-chaturanga yoga with devotion to Lord Dattatreya.

Guru text and chant:
Dattatreya is mentioned in the Puranas. Two texts on these are ‘Avatar-Charitra’ and ‘Gurucharitra’, which have been considered Vedatulya. We do not know who composed it. From Margashirsha 7 to Margashirsha 14, i.e. Dutt Jayanti, Dutt devotees recite the Gurucharitra. There are a total of 7491 lines in its 52 chapters. It describes the amazing pastimes and miracles of Shripad, Shrivallabh and Srinarasimha Saraswati.

Datta Paduka:
It is believed that Dattatreya used to bathe in Gangaji in Kashi every morning. This is the reason why Dutt Paduka Dutt of Manikarnika Ghat in Kashi is a place of worship for devotees. Apart from this, the main Paduka place is located in Belgaum, Karnataka. Lord Dattatreya is considered as Guru throughout the country and his Paduka is bowed.

The recitation of ‘Gurucharitra’ with devotion and the Dutt Mahamantra ‘Sri Digambara Digambra Shripad Vallabh Digambra’ have also been chanted collectively. In the Tripura mystery, Dutt-Bhargava-dialogues teach the deepest mysteries of spirituality.
