Five Indians have been detained by US patrol officers trying to enter the US illegally. Indian nationals caught and a suspected smuggler were apprehended by US Border Patrol agents stationed at the Ogdensburg Border Patrol Station in New York. The smuggler was trying to escape from the temporary immigration checkpoint.
The agency said a vehicle passed by the immigration checkpoint in New York’s Morristown. The vehicle was being driven by an American citizen. Agents identified the vehicle arrived at the parking area of a local market in Ogdensburg. He said that the driver left the vehicle and entered the market. After which Border Patrol agents caught the driver and five Indians. These Indians did not have immigration documents to live legally in America.
US Customs and Border Security said in a press release that officers of the Border Patrol at the Ogdensburg border spotted a suspicious vehicle in Ogdensburg , New York. After this, the people in the car were asked to stop.
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Expulsion Campaign (ERO) has been going on for the past month for Indian nationals caught. Earlier, federal officials arrested 45 people in the Houston area together for violating US immigration laws during their operation.
All of them were taken into custody and sent to Ogdensburg Border Patrol Station for further action. The criminal case has been referred to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York. In the year 2018, the Border Patrol of the United States arrested people from 113 countries along the southwestern border. More than 9,000 people were detained from India.
