Shameless Meaning of Lil Nas X’s MONTERO Call me by ur name

Lil Nas X has released a new single, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” together with a provocative, self-directed video with Tanu Muino.

“In life, we hide the parts of ourselves we don’t want the world to see,” Lil Nas X says in the voiceover to the video’s intro. “We lock them away. We tell them, ‘No.’ We banish them. But here, we don’t.”

The out rapper and singer then introduces us to the fantasy land of Montero, named after him (Montero Lamar Hill), where he is free to embody his sexuality as he pleases. The video depicts several Lil Nas X alter-egos in scenes inspired by history and mythology, including a makeout session with an alien version of himself, a Marie Antoinette-inspired stoning, and a lap dance with the Devil.

Lil Nas X released the “Call Me By Your Name” video alongside a letter to his 14-year-old self: “Dear 14-year-old Montero, I wrote a song with our name in it. It’s about a guy I met last summer. I know we promised to never come out publicly, I know we promised to never be ‘that’ type of gay person, I know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist.

You see this is very scary for me, people will be angry, they will say I’m pushing an agenda. But the truth is, I am. The agenda to make people stay the fuck out of other people’s lives and stop dictating who they should be. Sending you love from the future. -LNX”

Lil Nas X’s song “Old Town Road” made history in 2019 when it broke 17 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1, according to Billboard . The unforgettable medley won song of the year at the 2019 VMAs, thanks to its catchy melody, brilliant collaboration with Billy Ray Cyrus, and hidden meaning.

Fun fact: When Lil Nas X accepted the award for this accolade from American Idol Kelly Clarkson The winner’s reaction to his acceptance speech was a state of mind.

It’s safe to say that Lil Nas X has secured his place at the top and continues to spark a fascination for his creative antics. For example, his initial penchant for dressing like a cowboy is always iconic.

Lil Nas X also scored points for featuring the talented Skai Jackson in his music video, “Panini,” another hit. He was also with James Charles and got everyone talking. In fact, Lil Nas X had something to say about everyone’s talk on the subject!

The talk continues, but rest assured that all is well. Lil Nas X announced on Twitter that his song “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” came out at midnight on March 26, 2021. This is what the song really means.

Lil Nas X changes the name of the Garden of Eden into MONTERO

Lil Nas X’s smash hit “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” is loaded with meaning. For starters, his birth name is Montero Lamar Hill, something he explained during an appearance on Tonight’s Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in January 2021 .

“It’s a bit embarrassing, but I’m not ashamed,” said the singer. “My mom wanted the car, the [Mitsubishi] Montero, and she never got one.” He added: »So yes, I am called by a car«.

It is significant that Lil Nas X used his birth name, which seems to be a soft spot for him, in a song that emphasizes names. The lyrics say: “Call me by your name, I don’t care if you lie”, by Genius . Both the lyrics and the music video have important ties to the biblical story of the Garden of Eden, appropriately renamed Montero.

There is a serpent of temptation that Lil Nas X’s character seems unable to resist. The lyrics echo both the Garden of Eden and the temptation: “I’m not in phase, only here to sin / If Eve isn’t in your garden, you know you can.”

In a 2019 interview with Gayle King, the singer said that as a teenager, he prayed that being gay would “go away,” according to CBS . Well, his claim to the Garden of Eden, where all living things were traditionally named, and calling him Montero, shows a hug of who he is to the core. One fan tweeted that MONTERO “is the most wonderfully subversive and proudly queer music video I think I have ever seen.” Bravo .
