In contrast to the “hard facts” such as work experience, training and Co., soft skills are called the “soft factors”. Your personality is the focus here – they show your ability to deal with yourself and other people. So it is about methodical, social and personal skills that go beyond the technical.
In the course of globalization, companies are under greater pressure than ever to constantly reinvent themselves and to stand out from the big competition through innovations. And for that they need employees who not only understand their job, but can also deal properly with customers, partners and the team. In a study by the ESCP Europe University of Applied Sciences , 95 percent of the HR staff surveyed stated that they rate soft skills as important or very important.
And although soft skills are so important when it comes to recruiting, many applicants still don’t seem to realize how important it is to invest in their social skills. HR departments are increasingly complaining that applicants with well-trained technical skills lack personal and social skills. So you see: If you have the right soft skills, you are always a step ahead of your competition and a step closer to your dream job.
Soft skills examples for training
But can you learn soft skills at all or are the competences not much more part of our personality? Of course, some people are naturally more communicative or organized than others. However, this does not mean that you cannot train certain key qualifications. So the good news is: you can learn soft skills.
On the one hand, you improve them while gaining work experience. You will see: the more you work in a team, for example, the easier it will be for you to work with others over time. Soft Skill 1: communication skills
Ability to communicate is one of the most important key skills, because it forms the basis for successful interaction with customers, colleagues and business contacts. Basically, it is about recognizing what your counterpart wants and reacting to it clearly and effectively. Communication skills not only include the ability to communicate yourself, but also to listen carefully. It is also important that you can communicate the situation appropriately. Specifically, this means that you will certainly deal with your team members and the management differently than with customers or business partners. In today’s working world, teamwork is one of the most important soft skills. But being a team player doesn’t mean that you should submit to other team members. Rather, it is important that you discuss various opinions and views constructively and that each contributes a part to successful teamwork.

And disputes can also have something positive: If they are resolved as part of a fair culture of debate, this is often not only productive, but also welds the team together sustainably. The following applies: always be open to alternative approaches, respect the opinions of others and admit calmly if you are wrong.

You can only make progress in professional life if you learn from your mistakes and continue to develop yourself. Conversely, you should train to criticize others constructively and fairly. Then you create a basis for effective and trusting cooperation.
Of course, criticism is not always justified. Critical ability also means that you have to deal with the criticism and evaluate it for yourself. If you feel wrongly criticized, then speak openly and argue objectively and clearly why the criticisms do not apply to you. You will see: an open handling of criticism helps you to improve your skills and at the same time brings the whole team forward. A tip: always have at least one example ready for an interview, when you accepted criticism and how you used it for your personal development.

Companies are always on the lookout for employees who do their best and actively contribute their ideas to everyday work even without prior guidance. Or consider whether some decisions really have to wait for the go from above or whether you can make the decision yourself. You will see – often superiors will even be happy about the relief from work!
Of course, making decisions also means taking responsibility for this – regardless of whether the consequences are positive or negative. So think carefully about whether you can justify the consequences – and be brave! Because who doesn’t dare doesn’t win!

Constantly under stress and never having time is sometimes equated with productivity these days. True to the motto: whoever wails a lot is also productive.
